Wings of Change – Saving the Monarch butterflies

Stephanie Holbrook is the founder of Wings of Change, an organization dedicated to supporting California’s butterfly population. Without these uniquely beautiful little creatures, pollination would not occur. As with the bees and birds, butterflies are an important part of our ecosystem. Without them, our world would be a colorless, tasteless, and barren place.

From the New York Times (December 15, 2020): The monarch butterfly is threatened with extinction, but will not come under federal protection because other species are a higher priority, federal officials announced Tuesday.

From the Union Tribune (December 16, 2020): Without question, the Golden State is an epicenter of extinction.the over-wintering population of monarchs in California, which numbered more than a million in the late 1990s, has dropped to less than 2000 butterflies this year.
