Berry season has begun in Fallbrook

Yesterday I picked the first mulberries of the season. Strawberry plants have started to fruit, and they’re poised to deliver a great crop any day now. Blueberry bushes are covered with mostly green berries that have a hint of purple blush, but a few berries ripen each day.

Living in Fallbrook is the first time that I’ve been able to sample mulberries. They are sometimes available fresh in the grocery store (and pricey!). My tree is producing more berries every year — mulberries are a super fruit, so they’re very nutritious. If you have a space in your yard, consider a mulberry tree. The extra fruit (if there’s any left over!) can go into the freezer to be enjoyed year round.
