Are we going to become a Dark Sky Community?

Dark sky communities work to limit night sky light pollution — for enhanced star viewing. Julian is already a dark sky community.

At a recent Fallbrook Community Planning Group meeting, representatives from the International Dark Sky Association (IDA) had a presentation to persuade Fallbrook to set a goal to obtain a community Dark Sky designation.  This designation is set by a San Diego County ordinance.  Many people thought Fallbrook was already designated a Dark Sky Community, but this is not the case.  We were close once, but the criteria have evolved.  The Planning Group voted to write a letter signaling Fallbrook’s intent to meet the new criteria.  More information on the IDA can be found on their website.
